Create basslines for chord progressions with rhythm, groove, swing and export to MIDI

This free bassline generator creates bass patterns from your chord progression. Paste in chords such as Am - F - C - G, choose a genre, and the tool will generate a bassline that follows the harmony.

Unlike a simple random note generator, this tool focuses on rhythm and groove. It uses root notes, fifths, octaves, chord tones, passing notes, velocity changes, swing and turnarounds to create more usable basslines for songwriting and music production.

You can use it for pop, funk, house, trap, lofi, garage, drum and bass, or walking bass ideas, then copy the notes or download the result as a MIDI file.

How to Use the Bassline Generator

Start by entering a chord progression, then choose the length, genre and movement style. The generator will create a bassline that follows the chords while adding rhythm, velocity, swing and variation.

For simple results, use Root Only or Root + Fifth. For more movement, try Passing Notes or Walk Into Next Chord. If you want a more stable result, keep Safe Mode switched on.

What Makes a Good Bassline?

A good bassline usually supports both the chords and the drums. Root notes help define the harmony, while rhythm, rests, accents and passing notes create movement. In many styles, the bassline is less about playing lots of notes and more about placing the right notes in the right spaces.

This tool is designed to give you a starting point rather than a finished production. Try exporting the MIDI, changing the sound in your DAW, editing a few notes, and adjusting the rhythm to fit your drums.
