Our World-Beats section shows off a diverse collection of world music samples that incorporates various cultural influences and rhythms from around the world. In this category, you will find genres such as Afrobeats, Afrobeat (not a mistake, they are different), Afro-House, Dub, and Dancehall. I have highlighted our most popular genres from this section and included a brief description, below;
Afrobeats is a modern genre that originated in West Africa, particularly Nigeria and Ghana. It combines elements of Afrobeat, highlife, hip-hop, and various African and Western musical styles. Therefore, Afrobeats can be categorized as a fusion genre.
Afrobeat originated in Nigeria in the 1960s and 1970s, pioneered by the legendary musician Fela Kuti. It combines elements of traditional Nigerian music, highlife, jazz, and funk. Afrobeat features complex rhythmic patterns, horn sections, and socially conscious lyrics. It falls under the broader category of Afro-pop or world music.
Afro-House emerged from the fusion of African rhythms, percussion, and electronic music elements. It originated in South Africa and has gained popularity globally. Afro House is typically characterized by its rhythmic and percussive nature, combined with electronic production techniques. It falls under the electronic dance music (EDM) genre, specifically within the subcategory of house music.
Amapiano is a music genre that originated in South Africa. It blends elements of deep house, jazz, and lounge music with African sounds and rhythms. Amapiano is characterized by its distinctive keyboard melodies, catchy basslines, and slower tempo compared to other electronic dance music genres. It is commonly considered a subgenre of house music.
Dancehall is a genre of Jamaican popular music that originated in the late 1970s. It is heavily influenced by reggae, with faster rhythms and a stronger emphasis on the beat and bassline. Dancehall is known for its energetic and often explicit lyrics, as well as its vibrant and infectious danceable rhythms. It can be categorized as a subgenre of reggae.
